PART 4 - HOW TO PICK THE RIGHT CLEANSERS AND MAKEUP REMOVERS FOR YOUR SKIN TYPE – DRY SKIN. Check the previous posts on this series for more info.

Dry skins have a completely different set of characteristics. They're generally very thin and dull, they feel tight and are not that elastic, lacks moisture and is unable to effectively retain it, flaky causing it to have a rough texture, pores are very small, very minimal almost nonexistent sebum production, tendency to become red very easily, and prone to fine lines and deeper wrinkles even at a relatively young age.

Because this skin is very delicate by nature, special attention is required when selecting beauty products.

Cleansers for dry skin must be gentle well balanced foaming cleansers or by-phase cleansers. Avoid soaps and acids as these generally have the tendency to dry the skin even more.

Dry skins benefit from oil based makeup removers, preferably of natural origin rather than synthetic, to completely remove makeup, dirt and environmental pollution. Always applied as the first step during the evening beauty routine followed by a cleanser to completely remove all traces of makeup, oil and dirt left behind.

What’s your favorite cleansers? Let us know in the comments.

PART 3 - HOW TO PICK THE RIGHT CLEANSERS AND MAKEUP REMOVERS FOR YOUR SKIN TYPE - OILY SKIN. Check the previous posts on this series for more valuable info on how to recognize your skin type, and the differences on Cleansers and Makeup Removers.

Oily skins come with acne and black heads or none at all. What all people with oily skins have in common is excess sebum production, that the oily film you can’t seem to get rid of no matter what, enlarged pores, and overall plumped and thicker skin.

Excess sebum production cannot be turned off, but it can be controlled, and it all starts with how we care for the skin and the product selection we use.

The best cleansers for oily skin are foaming cleansers or facial soaps formulated with sea salts, activated charcoal and clays, preferably black clay. Black clay combined with activated charcoal remove by absorption impurities from within the pores to prevent blackheads and acne causing bacteria from starting infections, whilst sea salt naturally controls sebum production, drying out any breakouts reducing inflammation and redness, restoring a balanced pH providing antibacterial benefits. These products are best applied twice a day, during morning and evening beauty routines.

Oily skins benefit from oil based makeup removers, preferably of natural origin rather than synthetic, to completely remove makeup, dirt and environmental pollution. Always applied as the first step during the evening beauty routine followed by a cleanser to completely remove all traces of makeup, oil and dirt left behind.

Leave a ❤️ if you’re loving this series. PART 2 - HOW TO PICK THE RIGHT CLEANSERS AND MAKEUP REMOVERS FOR YOUR SKIN TYPE - NORMAL SKIN. If we don't have a clear picture of the condition and needs of our skin, we cannot possibly add products that would benefit it. To recognize your skin type, head back to the previous post on this series.

It's time to start picking the products based on your skin type and age. Frequently both women and men apply the wrong products for not only their skin type but age group.

Cleansers and makeup removers are not one and the same. Cleansers are generally foaming agents intended for the morning and evening routines to gently wash the skin before the application of toners.

Makeup removers are the first products intended to be used generally during the evening routine to fully remove all layers of makeup, dirt and environmental pollution. The good ones are formulated with oils either natural, naturally derived or a mixture of both. They must be followed by a cleanser to completely remove any oily residue left behind. Why? Because oils create a water repellent layer preventing anything else applied on top from getting absorbed by the skin.

Normal skins of any age should stick with well balanced preferably natural cleansers and makeup removers, and avoid heavy occlusive products formulated with synthetic ingredients as much as possible. Natural foaming cleansers in the form of liquid or even solid soaps are recommended. They do a great job during morning and evening skin care routines and are gentle on the skin. Avoid cleansers for acne prone skins as these can be harsh and drying even when fighting the occasional pimple. Avoid products with sulfates, mineral oils, detergents, glycols, parabens, phthalates, SLS, SLES, synthetic fragrances, and avoid products packed in plastic bottles. Many ingredients even natural ones, can and will break down and erode the plastic containers they're packaged in over time.

PART 1 - HOW TO CORRECTLY IDENTIFY YOUR SKIN TYPE. Recognizing your skin type is the first step in building a proper and realistic beauty routine.

There are 4 skin types: Oily, dry, normal and combination. Sensitive skin, contrary to the internet, is not a skin type. It's how reactive the skin is to certain environmental changes, foods, chemicals, treatments and compounds. Any skin type can also be sensitive. The most common skin type is combination skin.

NORMAL SKIN: It's a well balanced type of skin that doesn't feel oily nor dry. The texture is smooth and silky all over the face, pores are usually small in size, skin is very elastic. It isn't prone to acne breakouts, flakiness or feeling tight.

OILY SKIN: Chances are you've been told you have oily skin because your T zone is oily. That assessment however is not correct. Oily skins present an excess of sebum (oil) production consistently all over the face, neck and even chest and back. Enlarged pores and the presence of acne breakouts and blemished skin are typical tattle tales of this skin type, however not all oily skins present acne. This skin feels elastic and thick.

DRY SKIN: This skin is typically dull and very thin. It can become flaky and even scaly very quickly. It feels tight and not very elastic, and the pores are usually very small. It's prone to develop fine lines and wrinkles at an early age compared to the previous two. It can become itchy or irritated. Extreme heat, cold and sun can make this skin very angry.

COMBINATION SKIN: It includes areas that are oily — usually the T zone, which includes the forehead, nose and chin —, areas that are dry — lower jaw from the mouth all the way to the ears —, and even areas that present normal skin type — usually cheeks —. This is the most common skin type and it's often confused with oily skin.
