Collagen is the protein that aids in the growth of cells and blood vessels and gives skin its firmness and strength.
When we're young the natural production of collagen is at its peak, but as we age our bodies need some help to produce this amazing protein so our skin can keep on looking young and firm.
Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, is key to the production of collagen. Vitamin C is an antioxidant that slows the rate of free-radical damage. Free radicals are unstable molecules that damage collagen and cause skin dryness, fine lines and wrinkles. Eating foods high in Vitamin C or taking Vitamin C supplements help in keeping our skin tight, but applied straight to the skin can do wonders! Plus we can always use some free time to pamper ourselves, right?
Strawberry, Lime and Kiwi (especially gold kiwi) are fruits that are high in Vitamin C and that can refresh and soothe dry irritated skin.
To make this fabulous firming mask you'll need...
2-3 medium strawberries
1 kiwi (if gold kiwi even better!)
1-2 tablespoon of freshly squeezed lime juice
Blender or stick blender
Clean brush to apply the mask (optional)
Wash the strawberries, cut in pieces and place in blender. Cut the kiwi in half, empty the pulp with a spoon and place it in the blender. Turn on the blender or stick blender to low. Add the lime juice until you get a mixture the consistency of oatmeal.
Spoon out the mixture out of the blender into a bowl and with a large clean brush or your fingers apply the mask to the face. Avoid contact with eyes. Leave the mask on for 10-15 minutes. After the time, rinse off with fresh water. Continue with your regular toner and moisturizer if you're applying makeup, otherwise just go on with your day!
Use once a week for best results.
